Com més gran és el motor, més potent és el cotxe i, per regla general, és més gran. No té sentit posar un motor de petita capacitat en un cotxe gran, el motor simplement no pot fer front a la seva massa, i el contrari també és inútil: posar un motor gran en un cotxe lleuger. Per tant, els fabricants estan intentant fer coincidir el motor... amb el preu del cotxe. Com més car i prestigiós sigui el model, més gran és el motor i més potent és. Les versions de pressupost poques vegades tenen una capacitat cúbica de més de dos litres.
